Mushfiqur Rahim led Bangladesh side visited Sri Lanka for a 2-match Test series and most importantly, a question mark over their Test status. Angelo Matthews won the toss and elected to bat first on a flat Galle pitch. Hosts posted a huge total of 570 with only four wickets down and declared in quest of bowling the visitors out early.

Bangladesh in reply was limping at 177/4 and in came their most reliable batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. First, he settled in and consolidated with Ashraful. Then he started to pierce gaps with precision. He not only found boundaries consistently but also rotated the strike and made sure the scoreboard was moving along nicely. Soon he completed his century and looked hungry for more. He continued his batting like a routine even after the fall of Ashraful’s wicket.

His innings was such calm and composed that he didn’t even give a chance to the hosts. Mushfiqur, with his immense concentration and will power, achieved a first ever double hundred by a Bangladeshi batsman. It seemed to be the proudest moment of the Bangladesh Test history. He eventually got out soon after the double hundred giving his team a psychological lead of 68 runs.
