Kumble achieved the fourth-best figures by an Indian in an overseas Test when he took 8/141 in 46.5 overs in Australia’s first innings of the Sydney Test. On the final day he nearly bowled India to victory with 4 more wickets but Steve Waugh played a fantastic knock to manage a draw for the hosts in his farewell match. The track in Sydney wasn’t very supportive but Kumble bowled his heart out and eventually got just rewards.
