5 best spells by Anil Kumble: India’s leading wicket taker: Anil Kumble is a deserving member of the list of legends World cricket has witnessed. The ace Indian leg-spinner had a career that spanned almost two decades. He has 132 Test caps, 271 ODI caps and a total wicket tally of nearly 1000 considering both the formats of the game. He is the only other bowler after Jim Laker to take all 10 wickets in an innings.

It was rated by Wisden as the second best bowling performance in the history of cricket. In a country where batsmen are worshipped, Kumble stood out and earned respect in style in the process going on to become India’s all time leading wicket taker.

5. 6/12 v West Indies, Kolkata, 1993:

On November 27, 1993 Kumble utterly bamboozled West Indies in the final of the Hero Cup at Eden Gardens, taking 6/12 – an Indian record that stood until last year when allrounder Stuart Binny took 6/4 against Bangladesh. A crowd that Wisden estimated to be nearly 100,000 had thronged Kolkata’s storied cricket venue in hopes of seeing Mohammad Azharuddin’s team win the trophy and that is precisely what they got, courtesy Kumble’s incredible performance. India won by 102 runs and Kumble was a no brainer for the Man of the Match award.
