3. Blood on the ground at Sabina Park
Team India travelled to West Indies for playing four-match Test series. Both the teams gave a tough fight to each other and the series was at the level until the final game. The series decider was scheduled to be played in Kingston. Clive Lloyd, the skipper of the team at that time, won the toss and elected to field first. The hosts’ were already frustrated after suffering a defeat in the 3rd Test. So, they implemented a negative strategy of bowling short-pitched deliveries on an uneven bouncy track.
On Day 2, Anshuman Gaekwad became the first victim of the same and was hit on the left ear followed by the injuries of Gundappa Viswanath and Brijesh Patel. These three players then didn’t take part in the game. A total of five Indian players got injured throughout the match.
The things went so bad that in the second innings, Bishen Singh Bedi and Co. had no batsmen in their line-up to bat due to which he declared the innings with a lead of merely 12 runs on the board. The hosts’ won that match quite easily on the back of their poor strategy. But, they were also criticised for acquiring such an approach against their opponent.
