It has been more than 11 years since team India won the 2011 World Cup after defeating Sri Lanka in the final match of the tournament. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the Men in Blue scripted history as they played excellent cricket throughout the tournament and clinched the prized trophy.
It must be noted that the Men in Blue after winning the 2011 World Cup have managed to reach the knockout stage in several World Cup tournaments but have failed to grab the prized trophy. In this article, we will talk about five such setbacks in Indian cricket since they won the 2011 World Cup.
5 Drawbacks in Indian cricket since the 2011 World Cup:
5. Lack of left-arm pacers
Unlike the 2011 World Cup when team India had two prominent left-arm pacers Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra, the Men in Blue have not been able to find a permanent replacement for the veteran pacers. Zaheer played a crucial role throughout the tournament and scalped several important wickets for his side.
Just like Zaheer, Nehra also took some vital wickets in the competition and he was one of the reasons for India beating Pakistan during the semi-final clash. Nehra also continued to play after the 2011 World Cup and gave many vital contributions with the ball.
As mentioned above, team India has tried several left-arm pacers including Barindar Sran, T Natarajan, and Khaleel Ahmed, but these pacers could not manage to secure their place in the Indian line-up. At present, young pacer Arshdeep Singh has impressed everyone with his bowling performance and the left-arm pacer will want to become a regular feature in the Indian playing XI.
