1. T20 World Cup 2009: Dhoni promotes Jadeja ahead of Yuvraj
After winning the 2007 T20 World Cup, Team India was the hot favorite to lift the 2009 T20 World Cup. Adding on, the inclusion of IPL in the cricket calendar had boosted the level of T20 cricket in the circuit. Fresh new faces were coming up for selection.
One of them was Ravindra Jadeja, who was a part of the U19 World Cup in 2008. He was widely seen as a successor of Yuvraj Singh. In a must-win game against England, Dhoni played a gamble. He promoted Jadeja ahead of Yuvraj, the proven performer at that time.
Jadeja scored just 25 from 35 balls as India went on to lose the match by three runs and were out of the tournament. Later on, the Captain apologized to the nation via press conference. But, since then, Jadeja has been the most valuable player for the team. The current phase of Team India is a part of the sport, and hopefully, the team will come back stronger.
