5 cricketers who are earning 5 times or more in IPL than in The Hundred
The players were picked through a draft system for The Hundred where the maximum salary cap for a player was around INR 1 Crore.
England Cricket Board’s (ECB) newest format and tournament, The Hundred has hogged the limelight quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. The draft took place a few days ago and some of the big names from all across the world got picked. Eight teams picked a total of 120 players for the tournament which is slated to start in July next year.
Every new tournament that pops up, it invariably gets compared to the IPL. Not only the fans, the players and management have also drawn comparisons and hoped that The Hundred will become as big as the Indian T20 league. Inevitably, the money also gets compared.
The players were picked through a draft system for The Hundred where the maximum salary cap for a player was £125,000. However, the IPL undergoes a bidding process and hence, players tend to get higher salaries. Thus, in this article, let’s look at five players who are earning at least five times more in the IPL than in The Hundred.
1. Rashid Khan
If there is one spinner you want to have in your white-ball side, then it has to be Rashid Khan. The Afghanistan superstar has become one of the best limited-overs bowlers in the world. Hence, it’s no surprise that he is one of the most sought-after cricketers in T20 leagues around the globe.
Rashid has a phenomenal record in T20 cricket. He has taken 269 wickets and averages just under 17. Moreover, he has a strike-rate of 16.2 in the shortest format. In The Hundred’s draft, the Afghan leg-spinner was the first pick. The Trent Rockets had the first choice and they went for Rashid and splurged £125,000. (Almost INR 1 Crore).
However, Rashid in his first time in the IPL auction which was in 2017 had got INR 4 crores which is almost four times the amount he received in the draft. In 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) spent a stunning INR 9 crore for him. Hence, that is about nine times more than what he will be getting for The Hundred.
