Sometimes it feels like that the Indian team has set up a “batsmen manufacturing plant” in Mumbai as the state is continuously supplying quality batting exponents to the national team. Starting from Ajit Wadekar in the 1960s soon his legacy was carried on by Sunil Gavaskar in the ’70s and ’80s. Thereafter, the country saw the rise of one of the greatest cricketing talents of the game, Sachin Tendulkar in the late 2000s. Then a decade ago, the Master Blaster passed on the baton to Rohit Sharma.

Since then, Rohit has been displaying his batting prowess and in the process has become one of the pillars of the Indian batting unit. Sharma may not have achieved the record-breaking feats of his Tendulkar but he has certainly justified the Mumbai batsmanship. He has also displayed his leadership qualities as he has led his home-based IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians in 7 seasons. During this, Sharma has also fulfilled a couple of his cricketing dreams.

The first one being his elusive captaincy record as he has helped the franchise lift 4 titles. The second one is even more pleasing for him as he has captained his cricketing hero, Tendulkar. It happened in 2013 IPL when Ricky Ponting stepped down from the captaincy role of Mumbai Indians. Thereafter, Rohit took the charge and helped Tendulkar fulfil his IPL winning dreams which is nothing short of a fairytale.
