3. David Warner – Virender Sehwag
Even though David Warner is a controversial figure one cannot deny his cricketing genius as he has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in the international circuit. To be precise, he has amassed 14000 runs across formats in the last decade. For all his success, he will be obliged to the Indian Premier League as the tournament gave him the required push to break in the Australian set-up.
The southpaw made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in 2009. After waring the benches for the first half of the season he got his opportunity when the skipper, Virender Sehwag sustained a shoulder injury. Immediately, he showed his batting capabilities by providing quick starts. In turn, he became a regular in the side when he returned for the 2010 edition and joined forces with Virender Sehwag. For the next two years, the duo lit up the league with their destructive opening partnerships.
At first, Warner didn’t book a permanent seat on the Australian side as most of them labelled him as a white-ball commodity. However, with the wise words of Sehwag, the Aussie continued his style of play in the red-ball cricket and soon he made the cut to the Test team. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and has also topped the batting charts in Test cricket. Amidst all this, he also got a golden opportunity to lead Delhi in the 2012 IPL. Although the team lost both games he captained his idol, Sehwag which will always be a special moment for him.
