5. Dwayne Bravo – Brian Lara
There are batsmen and then there is Brian Lara who can make you fall in love with the gentlemen’s game. Such is the audacity of the left-hander that bowlers considered him as their arch-nemesis in their playing days. So, when he retired in 2007 the island nation experienced a vacuum in their batting department. However, there were hopes that his distant cousin, Dwayne Bravo will take up the mantle and guide the Caribbean team.
Like Lara Bravo had the batting flair which attracted the crowd. His back and across movement in the crease, and technique against spinners has an uncanny resemblance with the batting maestro. However, as time passed by Bravo became more of an all-rounder for the team. Sadly, Bravo couldn’t achieve the same level of success as Lara as his conflicts with the country’s cricket board slowed down his growth. Though he won World Cups and captained the side, his international career never took off.
Fortunately for him, he has carved out his name in world cricket with his T20 skillset. He has played more than 450 games for 23 odd franchises. Besides he also plays T20s for charity and promotional purposes. Among all of them, the most memorable has to be the” Selectors Fan Cup” where the Bravo XI was supposed to pit against Pollard XI. At the time Bravo was all set to lead his idol, Brian Lara but a last-minute injury changed the scenario. Still, Lara played the game as a part of the Bravo XI and it will remain in people’s minds forever.
