Josh Philippe entered the high-profile Big Bash League for the first time when he was signed by the Perth Scorchers back in the 2017/18 season. However, he did not quite get the opportunity to showcase his prowess there. In the 2018/19 season, he became part of the Sydney Sixers and that is where he grabbed the attention.

He initially played down the order which did not give him enough time to display his talent. Soon when Philippe was given the opportunity to open the innings for the side, he made most of it. He hit a blistering 86 off only 49 balls against the Hobart Hurricanes while chasing a total of 173 runs. He also smashed 508 runs in the last BBL season.

He was awarded a national call-up in T20Is given the World Cup was around the corner. However, he did not have a very pleasant time in the national side this year. He wasn’t able to fetch in impactful performances in the Bangladesh and the West Indies tour and was thus overlooked for Australia’s T20 World Cup squad.
