The world of ODI cricket in the last 10 years saw a lot of things happening left, right and centre. England won the World Cup for the first time in 2019, close to 500 runs were scored in a single inning and the dynamics of the World Cup changed a lot.
And, during the course of these events happening, many players rose to the top and their names were on the lips of every cricket enthusiast on the globe.
To commemorate the achievements of such impactful players, the International Cricket Council released the ICC Men’s ODI team of the decade. And, it must have been a really tough task for the people at the ICC headquarters to select 11 players from the sea of players who took the world of ODI cricket by storm.
Here’s a list of 5 such players who unfortunately missed out on being included in the XI-
1. Ross Taylor (New Zealand)
One of the best players to have played cricket for New Zealand in recent years, Ross Taylor, has been the backbone of the squad with the bat in hand and stayed true to his aura of being calm, collected, and classy throughout that time.
Taylor, during, his stint with the Kiwis has seen them through an emotional roller coaster of sorts, where they went through highs and lows. Ross stood strong in the side as a teammate to talk to, and a role model who could give real-time guidance to the players whenever they needed it.
Since the year 2011 for the One Day International team, he has featured in a total of 139 matches, out of which, the Kiwis won 78 matches. In those 139 games, he scored 5,950 runs, which makes a clear case for him to be one of the most iconic players to have played ODI cricket. And, it was a real shock for the cricket world when Taylor was not included in the ICC Men’s ODI team of the decade.
