5. Hashim Amla (South Africa)
A man who is capable of writing a book of batting all by himself that could become the most influential and apt book for upcoming players, Hashim Amla’s name was one that had been excluded from the ICC Men’s ODI team of the decade that was announced recently. It’s astonishing, to say the least.
Whatever may have been the reason for him not being included in the team, it was surely not his records that would have stopped the jury from not putting his name in. With 6,207 runs to his name in 144 matches at an average of 47.02, Hashim Amla’s numbers are as a good as it gets for a player who was playing in modern-day One Day International cricket.
One of the finest batsmen in world cricket during his playing days, Amla’s presence made a world of difference for the South African team. And, it is proven in the stats that have the win-loss ratio of the Proteas in ODI cricket in the matches he played, placed at an impressive 1.63, which translates to 106 wins in 178 matches.
Amla will surely go down as a legend and an icon of batting from South Africa and his name would be written in golden letters in every record book of cricket that is ever written.
