2. Chris Gayle – 145 players
Chris Gayle stands at the second spot in the list of cricketers who played with the most number of players in their International career. Gayle played alongside as many as 145 players despite playing only 462 matches in International cricket. The Universe Boss featured in 301 matches alone in ODI cricket where he played with a total of 129 players; the highest by any individual in this format.
One of the main reasons for Gayle holding this record is West Indies’ inconsistent selections through his 20-year career in International Cricket. The Caribbean team has been on a decline in the past decade or so except for the two WT20 victories. This resulted in selectors make changes repeatedly to bring out the best results. West Indies even had players who didn’t last even a year during this period.
His success in the 2011 IPL helped Chris Gayle to become a T20 freelancer as he began to selectively pick International assignments but was available for every ICC events. Every time Gayle represented West Indies in recent times, it seemed as if playing with a different line-up of the West Indies altogether. Gayle was part of two ODIs for ICC World XI in 2005 where he played alongside 19 players from different nations.
