5. Chris Woakes (2020)
Chris Woakes is the latest player who has pulled out of the IPL. The England all-rounder was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for his base price of INR 1.5 crore. Delhi was supposed to be his third IPL franchise after he turned out to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2017 and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2018.
While Woakes had good returns at KKR, picking up 17 wickets in the 10th edition, he couldn’t replicate his performances for RCB where he was pretty expensive. However, Woakes has decided to skip the 2020 season of the IPL in order to remain fresh for the upcoming international season.
England play six Test matches in the 2020 home summer with the season starting on the 4th of June against West Indies. Ahead of the auction, Delhi head coach, Ricky Ponting had suggested Woakes might go for big money but it was only Delhi Capitals that bid for him.
