2. Gus Logie – 3 catches and 1 run-out against Pakistan, ODI, 1986
Well, this instance is of the time when the West Indians were the sovereigns of the game and had barely required the brilliance of their fielders like Logie to win matches. With the match having an alarming presence of the legends like Sir Viv Richards and Pakistan’s Imran Khan, the ODI at Sharjah was supposedly be a captivating contest.
By winning the toss, captain Imran Khan promoted Saleem Yousuf to open with Mudassar Nazar to face the menacing bowling of Malcolm Marshall and Courtney Walsh which also then unlatched Gus Logie’s booming day at the field.
With Yousuf being specifically instructed to carry out attacking gameplay, very early at the score of 13, he eventually got caught by Logie, who later then also plucked Mudassar Nazar’s flat-batted shot. In that game, Logie had effectively used the square-leg umpire as a screen for his emulous fielding activities.
However, with Rameez Raja and Javed Miandad then trying to steady the ship for Pakistan by taking quick singles, there came a staggering run-out dismissal of Javed Miandad, who despite being the quickest of runners was unable to reach before Logie’s gunning throw at the stumps.
Later on, Logie then received his third catch which was a sky-high hit by Ijaz Ahmed ultimately grabbing it as a sitter. In the end, with Pakistan getting cheaply bowled out for 143 and with WI chasing comfortably, apparently, Gus Logie’s majestic fielding display made him yield a first Man of the Match award for fielding in the game.
