By being a prominent figure of his era, Mark Taylor was majorly known for his batting and for audacious captaincy, rather than as an apt slip fielder. But it was in this match that Taylor also showed his safeguarding skills at slips by grabbing four match-winning catches of West Indian batters.

With the match being played at the SCG, Australia in their scheduled 30 overs were bundled out for a score of 101 for 9 where Taylor had merely contributed a figure of nine runs. While he had definitely failed with the bat, his four outstanding catches had helped Australia to win the game by a mere margin of 14 runs.

In his four catches, Mark had caught the shoddy strokes of Gus Logie, Carl Hooper, Junior Murry, and Keith Arthurton which massively had helped Australia to win a closely fought game. Hence, for his sheer brilliance, Mark Taylor eventually got adjourned as the Player of the game.
