5 Cricketers who won the Player of the Match award for fielding
Fielding deserves credit just like batting and bowling.
5. Viv Richards- 3 catches vs India, ODI, 1989
While Sir Viv Richards must have won numerous MOM awards for his firepower batting, in this instance the West Indian great was merely rewarded for his three prominent catches. This occurrence had shaped up when India was playing the West Indies in the second semi-final of the MRF World series and with India winning the toss, instantly they decided to have a bat first.
However, the West Indian bowling had eventually restricted the Indian batting for a decent total of 165 runs wherein Sir Viv Richards had not only plucked three catches but also had extensively saved many runs.
Dilip Vengsarkar, Raman Lamba, and Manoj Prabhakar were the three players who had got dismissed from Sir Viv’s fielding which perhaps had also made the total so modest that, the Calypso King did not need to come out and bat.
Hence, with West Indies coming out and fetching a convincing win, Viv Richards was apparently given the best player of the match.
