In India sportspersons, especially cricketers are considered as superheroes or demigods. Likewise, people here love Marvel characters as much as their cricketers. Until now fans of Marvel comics have enjoyed the spectacle when Hulk smashed Abomination, Iron Man beat down Extremis, Dr. Strange outwitted Kaecilius and Avengers ripped apart Chitauri Army. Now it is time for one final chapter Avengers: Endgame and it is set to roll and followers of Cricket and Marvel Universe are already excited for one final hurrah. So here are 5 current Indian cricketers who are similar to Avengers as many parallels can be drawn between them and the Marvel characters: 1. Virat Kohli – Iron Man Right now the poster boy of cricketing world is none other than Virat Kohli as his passion has taken the game to a new level. One can easily relate Iron Man qualities with Kohli like he has different suits for different formats. Kohli loves to be in the control of the situation and never backs down even if the odds are stacked against him. When he walks out to bat, he demolishes opposition bowling attacks and it is similar to Iron Man destroying the Chitauri Army. Tony Stark the alter ego of Iron Man always strives for perfection a quality which can be related with Kohli’s batting prowess. Kohli loves to be in the limelight and always keeps the team’s interests ahead of his own and that’s why he can be called the Iron Man of Cricketing Universe. 2. MS Dhoni- Captain America Cricket is often referred to as Gentleman’s game and there is no better gentleman than the enigmatic MS Dhoni. He has served the Indian cricket innumerable ways and his attributes are very similar to Captain America as they both have been through many wars in their lifetime. MSD doesn’t have weapons like his contemporaries but what he has is a calm head in pressure situations and it is equivalent to Captain America’s shield. In his career, Dhoni has taken a lot of criticisms in his stride and even in tough times, he has walked into the battlefield like a true soldier. MSD always stands up for his colleagues and it is similar to Captain America’s stand for his best friend Bucky. So, MSD in true sense can be called Captain America of Indian cricket. 3. Rohit Sharma – Thor Over the years Indian cricket fans have enjoyed watching some geniuses at work and Rohit Sharma is one of them. When Rohit bats it is a carnival for the spectators as people consider Rohit Sharma as God gifted and that is where he is similar to the Marvel Character Thor. Rohit brings upon mayhem on opposition bowling attacks with his willow which is equivalent to Thor’s mighty hammer. They instil fear in the minds of their foes with their abilities. Rohit Sharma has generated some mind-boggling numbers and records and thinking of breaking them is as tough as lifting Thor’s Hammer. Now as Thor is called as the “God of Lightning”, Rohit can be called as ” God of Striking”. 4. Cheteshwar Pujara – Black Panther The game of Cricket is full of uncertainties but for except one thing which is completely certain is Pujara’s defence. Pujara does not have the abilities which his teammates possess but he is a tough nut to crack. Likewise, Black Panther does not have the aura that other Avengers have but he stands up whenever the going gets tough. For Pujara his biggest weapon is mental strength which is as strong as the vibranium. If Black Panther uses a suit made out of vibranium then Pujara uses a suit made out of Patience. Both of them are extremely humble and their grittiness can’t be matched easily. Black Panther is the protector of Wakanda and similarly, Pujara is the protector of Test Cricket in India. 5. Jasprit Bumrah – Dr Strange If miracles are part of cricket then Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling is definitely one of them. Bumrah’s bowling action is a mystery like the Eye of Agamotto worn around the neck by Dr Strange. Both Bumrah and Dr Strange learned their respective arts very quickly and are vital cogs of their respective teams. Dr Strange defeated Kaecilius and his henchmen in the same manner as Bumrah outwitted world class batsmen. Both of them weave magic around their opponents by using their hands and within the short amount of time, the superheroes showed their true potential. Finally, it can be said that Jasprit Bumrah is really Dr Strange of this universe as his mystery is still puzzling many people. So cricketers and superheroes are extremely relatable as many of their qualities match up with each other and in a country like India cricketers are the real superheroes for the people. For fans Avengers: Endgame can be the last ride but there is no reason to get disappointed as the cricketing heroes are going to continue their saga for a long time.
