5. Vijay Shankar
The all-rounder shined through the grimness of Delhi Daredevils’s misery in IPL 11 quite a few times, when he emerged as the perfect all-rounder – hitting the big shots and bowling quick pace with equal ease. The 27 year-old’s breakthrough moment came in November 2017 when he was called up as a replacement to Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the series against Sri Lanka. IPL 2018 saw him score 212 runs in 11 games, along with the lone wicket of Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s Faf du Plessis in the first DD vs CSK encounter of the season.
However, with the likes of Hardik Pandya-Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar having emerged and gained prominence as India’s answer to the persistent all-rounder question, Shankar might have to wait a few years more before he can make his World Cup debut stint. Considering the fact that he’s not earned a call-up to India’s 16-member squad against the upcoming tour of England, Shankar’s chances of playing the 2019 World Cup seem to be very low.
