5 Current top cricketers and the records they created in Under-19 Internationals
Here are the five records from Under-19 cricket which are held by current top International players.
4. Best bowling figures in a Youth Test – Tim Southee
Tim Southee has been one of the crucial players of the New Zealand team for nearly a decade now especially in Test cricket. He represented his country at the 2008 U19 World Cup where they lost to India in the semi-final. However, a year before the tournament, Southee troubled the Indian team with a record performance that helped them square a Youth Test series at home.
India U19s took 1-0 lead in the 3-match series with an innings victory and bundled out the Blackcaps for 100 on the first day of the Dunedin Test. Southee helped the Kiwis to bounce back with figures of 6/36 as India’s first-innings lead was limited to 29 runs only. His 6-wicket haul saw India collapse from 68/1 to 129. In their 2nd innings, the home team were five wickets down for only 95 runs on the board.
Contributions from middle and lower order batsmen helped New Zealand to finish on 334 and set a target of 306 to the Indian U19s. Southee stepped up for the Kiwis yet again as India slumped to 174/9 from 79/1. He claimed yet another 6-wicket haul (6/56) which bundled out India for 232 and seal a 72-run win. Tim Southee’s match figures of 12/92 remain as the best bowling figures in a Youth Test match.
