Gareth Batty, the father figure in the dressing room, will be the trump card in the spin department for Cook. The experienced veteran, who returned to the Test setup after 11-year hiatus, will have all eyes set on him and surely carries a huge responsibility on his shoulders.

This series will be a sort of redemption for the 39-year-old. He made his debut in 2003 against Bangladesh, he could manage only seven Tests between till 2005, four of them in Asia, and was left out ahead of the Ashes in the summer of 2005.

His tally of 11 wickets at an average 66 was the reason behind his ouster. Frontline spinner Giles returned and later Swann cemented his place as Batty never played again until recently he came to the fore due to lack of quality spinners in the English setup. While the Test stats he has are not close enough to be threatening His recent run in the county championship and his performance in his comeback test against Bangladesh suggest he is in a good rhythm.
