The Ashes is probably the most ferocious competition in the sports world. The rivalry between Australia and England goes back more than 100 years in the past, with one team bossing the other. It’s cricket in its purest form and it just keeps getting better.

The Ashes has provided a number of unforgettable moments in cricketing history, be it the ‘Bodyline’ series or the 2005 Ashes in England. But the dual between James Anderson and Mitchell Johnson during the 2010-11 Ashes in Australia holds different regard all together. It happened on the first day of the 3rd Test Match of the series. At the non-striker end, Johnson called out the bowler James Anderson and said, “Why are you chirping now mate, not getting wickets?”.

Anderson, the highest wicket-taker of the series, soon silenced Mitchell Johnson as on the next ball itself he clean bowled Ryan Harris. It’s often said that the best way to reply sledging is to perform and James Anderson did just that. It wasn’t over. After picking the wicket, Anderson turned around to Johnson and showed him the ‘shush’ symbol, keeping his index finger on his lips. This incident is now marked forever in Ashes history.
