5. Prabhsimran Singh – INR 4.8 Crore
It’s not an everyday thing to see a teenager steal limelight, and it’s even rare to see them strapped with a whopping price tag. This never seemed to surprise Prabhsimran Singh, a 17-year-old wicketkeeper from Patiala, who stole the show during the intense IPL 2019 bidding war. Glimpses of his talent were recognized by the public when he had scored a 35 ball 65 in U19 Asia Cup finals.
However, the wicketkeeper never proved himself to be a valuable pick for the Punjab Lions. Being an inexperienced player, the Punjab management not only disallowed him to explore himself as a specialist batsman but not being behind the wickets due to the presence of KL Rahul, led to his wicketkeeping talent to go unnoticed.
He managed to score just 16 runs at a strike rate of 94.11 in the one opportunity he was provided. An enormous 4.8 crores for a match would have created a hole in the financial purse of the franchise who would surely not want to make similar mistakes in this year’s auction.
