5 Foreign cricketers to watch out for in the PSL 2

After the success of their inaugural season, the second season of PSL is all set to kick off from 9th February in Dubai. The five teams are slated to play a total of 24 matches which includes the playoffs as well as the finals which would be played in Lahore. With a mix of the international stars along with the crusaders in the domestic circuit, PSL promises to be bigger and better. It would be willing to produce some exhilarating cricketing action this year too. Alongside the presence of local cricketers, it’s the foreign cricketers that add up to the charm of the league. Ever since the inception of T20 leagues like IPL and BBL, we’ve seen foreign cricketers gain more accolades and recognition playing in front of huge crowds. Here we have a look at five foreign players to watch out for in PSL 2017:- 1. Brendon McCullum (Lahore Qalandars) Brendon McCullum. (Photo Source: BCCI) The now retired, Brendon McCullum for years has donned the aggressor’s role while opening the Kiwi batting, scoring runs at a frenetic pace. Representing the Lahore Qalandars, he’s expected to play a double role in the team, i.e. the role of skipper as well as a mentor. He recently gave a pep talk to the Lahore Qalandar players ahead of the action packed T20 league. The fundamental principle of McCullum’s batting has always been his unorthodox stroke playing abilities, a trait which comes straight from his coaching manuals. Chris Gayle (Karachi Kings) West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle. His incredible effortless sixers put smiles on the faces of even the most discerning cricket fan. Considered as one of the most dangerous batsmen in world cricket, bowlers fear for being hit all round the park once Gayle gets going. He has got all the ammunition to singlehandedly change the course of the game within no time. He was a part of Lahore Qalandars in the previous season and was traded off to the Karachi Kings, owing to poor form. He would be willing to prove a point about himself. Also, the Karachi Kings would be keen to watch him in full flow and hit those massive sixes all over again. 3. Jason Roy (Lahore Qalandars) Jason Roy. There’s no doubt that he will be intending to repeat the same in PSL. His fearless striking at the top order has earned him a lot of well-deserved admiration. Roy is expected to open the batting with Brendon McCullum which makes for a hefty firepower in the opening slot for the Lahore Qalandars. He will aspire to take full advantage of the power play overs and set a healthy platform for the middle order to build on. If he gets going, it will be really difficult to stop Lahore Qalandars. 4. Shane Watson (Islamabad United) Shane Watson. (Photo by Michael Dodge/Getty Images) A truly versatile, talented and prolific allrounder, Shane Watson held his own when it came to proving himself either with the bat or ball. Representing Islamabad United in the PSL, Watson will be looking to cover for the absence of Andre Russell who was recently suspended for a year. His reputation of striking the ball clean and also the ability to move the new and old ball will give a tough time to the opposition. Even after international retirement, Watson continues to remain a high profile player in the ranks of Islamabad United. Badree’s grip is quite unique among leg spinners which has helped him achieve an amazing level of consistency. His bankability has been a key ingredient for the teams he has featured across various leagues. Someone who has always managed to trouble the batsmen with those skidders and unerring accuracy. For someone who experiments a lot and can even open the bowling, Samuel Badree would prove to be a valuable asset for defending champions Islamabad United. Currently No.3 in the ICC rankings, Islamabad fans would be relying on him to rake up the moolah.
