2) Nayan Mongia
In the ’90s many cricketing talents emerged from the country and one of them has to be Nayan Mongia. In his playing days, the keeper-batsman received praise from players like Kiran More and Alan Knott. He played close to 200 international games including 44 Test matches. He is still considered one of the greatest glovemen to play for the Indian team.
Though his career ended prematurely owing to controversial issues he is still an active contributor to the game. He has been guiding young cricketers and has also been working as a cricket analyst. In one of his interviews when he shared his views on Rohit Sharma’s push in the Test arena it became a piece of front-page news.
As per Mongia, opening in red-ball cricket is a specialized job. He criticized the selection panel for opting for a makeshift opener instead of looking for a permanent solution. He also added that Rohit might lose his limited-overs form if he makes changes to his current game which has made him a white-ball superstar. Nayan preferred domestic performers like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal to fulfil the opening duties ahead of Hitman.
