2) Steve Waugh – Austin Waugh
The former Australian skipper, Steve Waugh is one of the cricketers who laid the foundation of the golden era for the country’s cricket. Throughout the ’90s Waugh was the lynchpin of Australia’s middle order and his 32 Test centuries is the testimony of the fact. Along with the tag of the most successful captain in Test history he was the leader when the Kangaroos lifted the title in 1999.
Steve was a player who relied on hard work and sheer determination for success and it paid off as his career was full of glittering moments. After representing the nation for almost two decades Steve Waugh retired in 2004 and the game lost a gem of a cricketing character. Now his legacy will be shouldered by his son, Austin Waugh. He has already shown his hunger for success when he piled 372 runs at an average of 74 in the U-17 50 over National championships.
Last year he also played the U-19 World Cup for the Men in Yellow. Like his father, Austin’s strong suit is his batting but he can also chip in with useful wickets with his medium-pace bowling. Even his batting style and mannerisms on the field resemble his old men so it will be a treat to watch him in the near future at the big stage.
