The inaugural Test of 2016 saw Ben Stokes launch a jaw dropping assault on a despirited South African line up at Cape Town. He helped himself to the highest score ever for a number 6 batsman in Test matches and shattered a number of records en-route 258 off just 198 balls.

Stokes marauded 11 sixes, being particularly sever on Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada, and smashed 30 fours. His strike rate of 130 helped him reach his 200 in 163 balls.

It was the second fastest double ton ever in Test matches, and this counterattacking inning ensured that England laid a strong foundation and ended up dethroning the number 1 team in the world by defeating them at home.
