‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ was widely loved by the fans and a huge success on the box office as well. The film also garnered the critical acclaim and revealed a lot of unknown stories from the former Indian skipper’s life. Further, it minted over ₹200 crores collection and his journey inspired many from small-town India to dream big and achieve.
However, the film only focussed on MS Dhoni’s life until World Cup 2011 beginning from his childhood. Since there was a lot that went on in his life after that, many expected a sequel for the film. But, there wasn’t any confirmation of the same all this while.
Sushant Singh Rajput, who played MS Dhoni in the film was just brilliant. The actor also confirmed that there would be a sequel for the film and he told that the shooting for the sequel will begin in 2019. This has brought a lot of delight to the fans. Although MS Dhoni’s life has been an open book since World Cup 2011, there are a lot of inside stories that are to known. Hence, on that note, here is what we could expect from the sequel.
1. Whitewashes in England, Australia | Retirement of seniors | Transition
MS Dhoni had one of the worst phases of his life right after the World Cup 2011 victory. His team, Chennai Super Kings won the IPL 2011 and it was believed that the best was yet to come. However, things didn’t go as planned. The Indian team was whitewashed 4-0 in both England and Australia in the same year. The players would have been definitely down at this stage and there would’ve been a lot that went on in the team.
Further, some of the senior players starting from Rahul Dravid began to retire from international cricket. Also, players like Virender Sehwag and others who were expected to play a big role missed out from the squad due to their poor performances. It wouldn’t have been an easy call to remove them and this topic would be a very interesting one in the movie.
The transition for the Indian team although not a very successful one was definitely a smooth one. Mahi ensured that he trusted the youngsters and kept faith in them. He backed even the players who didn’t perform really well. Also, he helped build a very good pool of fast bowlers after the embarrassments in England and Australia. Hence, this whole episode will be quite intriguing in the sequel of the biopic.
