5. Virat Kohli’s sudden step down from Test captaincy

After the completion of the eventful Test series in which India had to suffer a loss, Virat Kohli dropped a bombshell by quitting Test captaincy that left every Indian cricket fan heartbroken. Virat Kohli used his social media accounts to share this news. Earlier he was dealing with one controversy after another as he was removed from ODI captaincy and then,  he decided to step down from T20 captaincy.

Virat Kohli took the Indian Test team to greater heights after he was made the Indian Test captain. In the recent past, he has had tense relations with the BCCI. He was handed over Test captaincy when MS Dhoni announced retirement from Test cricket in the middle of the Test series in Australia in 2014. Then, India was at number seven in the ICC Test rankings.

Virat Kohli took India to the number one position and India ruled Test cricket for five years. Virat said, “Everything has to come to a half at some stage and for me as Test captain of India, it’s now”. These words of Virat Kohli were all over the social media platforms. He added to his statement saying, “There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey but there has never been a lack of effort or lack of belief.”
