4. Yuzvendra Chahal
Kohli’s RCB teammate Yuzvendra Chahal also gets some great support from him. The leg-spinner has responded brilliantly and with his consistent performances has replaced the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the side after his arrival. Virat often backs him to go for the kill, even though the batsmen score a few runs against him.
Chahal is clearly in the plans for the World Cup 2019 looking at how things have progressed. He has played 36 out of his 57 international games under the current skipper. Although he has delivered when asked over the last two years, there were times where he went through low patches. In six matches (ODIs and T20Is) each against Australia and New Zealand in 2017, he only picked 7 wickets.
However, Virat kept faith in him and he paid it back on the South Africa tour in 2018 returning 17 wickets in 8 international games. But, Chahal failed yet again in England this year where he only managed to pick one wicket in three T20Is and two wickets in three ODIs. Despite these rare failures, Virat never let him feel unsettled about his spot in the side and the leggie enjoys a great luxury of having his captain’s faith in his abilities.
