5 Indian players who might get a national call-up after 2019 World Cup

There are two things that are going through a sublime form at the moment. One, unfortunately, is the weather of the United Kingdom. The second, though, is the form of the Indian cricket team. Remaining unbeaten after three games in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, the Indian team is looking like a closely knit family. However, it will be foolish to think that this is a family that won’t make any changes. Right after the World Cup, the men in blue will take on the Windies for three T20Is, as many ODIs and two Tests, which will also mark the start of the World Test Championship. The West Indies squad might lose some of its current firepower after the World Cup. Also, given the tiring schedule, the Indian cricketers have to deal with, a few tweaks to the side must be expected. Hence, quite a few debuts might be there on the cards, Let us have a look who might get a call-up for the national team after the World Cup: 1. Rahul Chahar Rahul Chahar. However, the past few months have been quite fruitful for the teenager from Bharatpur, Rajasthan. He was exceptional for the Indian Premier League 2019 champions Mumbai Indians. In the 13 matches he played, Chahar picked up as many wickets. The most impressive thing about his IPL 2019 performance was the economy rate which was well under 7 runs per over. Owing to his great run of form, Chahar got an opportunity to represent India A in the 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka A. With 14 wickets in those 2 matches, the leggie was the highest wicket-taker of the series, claiming almost twice the number of wickets of his nearest competitor. 2. Shivam Dube Shivam Dube. (Photo Source: Twitter) Shivam Dube was an unknown commodity for many before the IPL 2019 auction. But Royal Challengers Bangalore spending INR 5 crores on the all-rounder raised quite a few eyebrows. However, his first IPL campaign was far from a fairy tale. Scoring just 40 runs at an average of 13 and failure to take any wicket came like a blow of a hammer on the 25-year-old. Despite his poor performance in the IPL, Dube was selected in the India A side for the ODIs against Sri Lanka A. The Mumbaikar has taken 5 wickets in 4 games in the on-going tournament, making him India A’s most successful bowler of the tournament thus far. His economy rate of under 5 runs per over is equally impressive. Provided the national selectors decide to give Hardik Pandya some rest, Shivam Dube might get his maiden call. 3. Navdeep Saini Navdeep Saini. (Photo Source: Twitter) Gone are those days when people could claim that India has a dearth of pacers with raw, lightning pace. Jasprit Bumrah is India’s answer to all such remarks, and it looks like IPL has unearthed another one of his king. A teammate of Shivam Dube at Royal Challengers Bangalore, Saini came to the limelight in this year’s IPL. Playing 13 matches, he was Virat Kohli’s ‘go to’ pacer. The 26-year-old from Karnal, Haryana took 11 wickets in the tournament, making him the second-highest wicket-taker of his team. His economy rate of just over 8 runs per over was the best amongst his team’s pacers. Given his numbers and his pace, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly wanted him to be included in India’s World Cup squad. Though it did not happen, a national call up looks all but certain for Saini. 4. Shreyas Gopal Shreyas Gopal. (Photo Source: Twitter) Shreyas Gopal is like the supporting actor of any Bollywood film, who does all the important work but never gets the limelight. Currently 25 years of age, the all-rounder has always been a handy customer. His List A numbers of a batting average of nearly 30 and bowling average of 20 testify to it. But given the tournament he had in this year’s IPL, this might well be the time for Gopal to snatch the hero’s role. In 14 matches, Gopal victimized as many as 20 batsmen. With that, he became not only Rajasthan Royals’ most successful bowler but also the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. His economy rate of just over 7 runs per over goes hand in hand with it. Currently, Gopal is playing for India A in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka A. In 2 matches, Gopal has picked up as many wickets as the lad from Karnataka looks to build on his form. 5. Ruturaj Gaikwad Ruturaj Gaikwad. (Photo Source: Twitter) Our fifth mention on the list is someone for whom the Indian Premier League should not be a platform to judge upon. Though Ruturaj Gaikwad was picked up by Chennai Super Kings, he did not get a single game. However, the 22-year-old has a fabulous domestic record and was hence selected for India A’s one-day series against Sri Lanka A. From what he has shown thus far, the national selectors must be patting themselves on the back for their immaculate decision. In 3 matches, Gaikwad amassed 396 runs at an astonishing average of over 300. His unbeaten knock of 187 is a prime reason for that average. But Gaikwad’s record is a gift that keeps on giving, as his strike rate is at a phenomenal number of 137. The Pune-born right-handed batsman has not got much limelight until this tournament, and given his form, we can except the sale of blue jerseys with Gaikwad printed on the back in a few years’ time.
