2. India beat West Indies by 6 wickets, Port of Spain, 1976:
Fast forward five years Indians were back to their favourite ground in the Caribbean but this time under a new captain Bishan Singh Bedi. This team was relatively new and the chances of winning was very less.
The hosts got off to a very good start scoring 359 thanks to a brilliant 177 from the evergreen Sir Viv Richards who was supported by their captain Clive Lloyd. Bishan Singh Bedi and BS Chandrasekhar picked 4 and 6 wickets respectively as the other bowlers failed to impress. The Indian batsmen failed to make a mark thanks to some brilliant bowling from Michael Holding. Indians were bundled out for 228. Madan Lal top scored with 42.
The West Indies declared for 271 losing 6 wickets Alvin Kallicharan scored 103 and set India a target of 403. This target was never chased before in Test cricket and a victory was off the cards but the Indians had other plans, the openers got off to a strong start and was duly supported by the middle order with Gundappa Viswanath and Sunil Gavaskar scoring 112* and 102 respectively.
Team India chased the score with 6 wickets to spare thereby making a record fourth inning score. This record was later broken by West Indies. This Test match will go down in the record books as one of the best Test matches. The home team and their bowlers were under a lot of criticism after the match because chasing down a total of 403 in the fourth innings was considered impossible those days.
