If you’d ask me to pick a One-day XI, the first person I’d get on board is Rohit Sharma. Over the last couple of years, Rohit Sharma has transformed himself into a match winner. For years, he had both the talent and opportunities what eluded him was success and consistency; he shrugged that off after the 2013 Champions trophy, where he was promoted as an opener and has gone on to become one of the best in today’s game. Since the start of 2013 he averages a handsome 51.86 (he has scored 5 centuries and those 2 massive double centuries during this period) vs his career average of 39.20.

He has been largely successful against most nations but South Africa. In the 12 games that he has played against the Proteas, he averages a miserable 18.81 which less than half of his career average. I am sure he hasn’t forgotten that it was his failure in the 2011 tour of South Africa that kept him out of India’s plans for the 2011 World Cup that followed the series. Rohit would like to get his “A Game” in this series as the South Africans are here for a long series and getting used to Steyn and Co. early in the tournament will help him play them better in the Tests where he will be keen on ending his drought of centuries.
