The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was one of the most competitive seasons of all time. For the top four positions, the team battled out till the last league game. Last year, the fans witnessed the double super over for the very first time. Apart from that, on a single day, we witnessed two games, involving Super Overs. Well, the KXIP made a splendid comeback from a desperate position. But, still, they were unable to make it to the playoffs. Talking about the Mumbai Indians, they were the dominant side last year, and hence, we witnessed a one-sided final. Well, for the Royals, the story was the same, bottom position for the men in pink. Now, as we move ahead to another season, the BCCI should look forward to implementing a few new and exciting rules. This will not only provide a thrill, but also a lifeline to this cruel format of the game. The BBL has set up a perfect example of how new rules can be implemented in the shortest format of the game. Here are 5 interesting rules that should be implemented in IPL 2021: 1. Power surge AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. It is a two-over period during which the fielding side is allowed to park only two players outside the thirty-yard circle. This rule had raised a few eyebrows as many speculated that it might not be a good move to implement this rule. However, this was beneficial for a team that was struggling midway during their innings. During the power surge, the batting side can call for this rule at any point from the eleventh over of their innings. Talking about the field restrictions, the rules remain the same as that of the original powerplay overs. Well, this might spice up the competition in the IPL. Therefore, the power surge makes it to this list! 2. X-Factor Ishan Kishan and MS Dhoni. Fatigue, poor running between the wickets affected the team’s performance as they were kicked out of the tournament. Well, last year, it was the Chennai Super Kings, this year, it might affect some other teams too! To shed this off, the X Factor rule should be implemented to save their match. An X-Factor player is named as either the 12th or 13th player on the team sheet. He can come into the game beyond the 10th over of the first innings and replace any player who is yet to bat. This also includes the bowlers, as an X-Factor can also be used by the fielding side! Therefore, the X-Factor rule makes it to this list! 3. Fatigue Replacement Chennai Super Kings. For most of the last season, the teams were adversely affected because of the harsh environment in the UAE. This resulted in the lack of intent and fatigue of players all around. The team that was affected was the Chennai Super Kings. Well, in this rule, if a batsman or a bowler is struggling to get going, because of fatigue, then he can be replaced by one of the benched players. As this rule is being implemented on both sides, there is no unfair advantage! Therefore, Fatigue Retirement could be a welcome change in the rule books ahead of the upcoming IPL. 4. Well, the perfect replica is the Net Run Rate rule, which comes into play during tight situations, but how about a bonus point rule? The BCCI can look forward to award some points who are ahead of their opposition during the second innings. This will help the fans to have a clear picture of how things are working in the Indian Premier League. Last year, every team had to wait till the final league match to be aware of their eventual fates. Hence, there was a lot of confusion amongst the followers of the game. To settle this, BCCI can use the Bonus Point rule to award a few points to a team that has been dominating throughout the match. Therefore, the Bonus Point rule makes it to this list. 5. The Royals had the best overseas combination in the tournament. But, because of the failures of inexperienced Indian players, they failed to get into the top four. This can happen to any team in the upcoming season. As IPL is all about a platform where talent meets opportunity, the board should look forward to including some overseas players in their tagline. Five overseas and six Indian players will make a difference as the level of competition will increase. Healthy competition means more players will battle out for the limited spots, and this might bring a revolution in the IPL. Therefore, this rule makes it to this list!
