It is safe to say that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most unpredictable T20 leagues in the world. While one season witnesses a player going for big bucks in the auction of that year, the same player then goes unsold in the next one. However, the cliched “Rags to Riches” story still exists in the Indian T20 league.

Over the years, several unknown cricketers got sold for a relatively lower price. They then manage to impress one and all and go on to then, fetch hefty amounts in the editions to follow. With the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction near the corner, several players are expected to fetch big amounts despite being sold for a relatively lower price in the past.

So which are those cricketers who can fetch a hefty price in the mega auction despite being sold for a lesser price in a previous auction? Today, we shall be taking a look at –

IPL players who can fetch big deals in the auction after being brought at low base prices earlier

1) Devdutt Padikkal (20 lakhs)

Devdutt Paddikal is hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket by most of the experts. Despite making his IPL debut in 2020, he has already established himself as a consistent batter in the toughest T20 league in the world. In the IPL 2019 auction, The opener was purchased for just 20 lakhs by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

This turned out to be a steal deal as the rising star went on to have a splendid season. He even won the emerging player of the season award in IPL 2020. So far in his IPL career, Padikkal has scored 884 runs in 29 games.

His batting average and strike rate are 31.57 and 125.04 respectively. This includes six fifties and a hundred. Considering the fact that many teams would want an Indian opener on their side, there’s a good chance of the 21-year-old going for crores.

2) Liam Livingstone (75 lakhs)

Liam Livingstone is tailor-made for the shortest format of the game. An explosive striker of the ball who can bowl a few overs as well, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to call him a complete package.

Moreover, he has been in a stupendous form of late. However, he was purchased for just 75 lakh rupees by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021 auction. Post the fourteenth edition of the IPL, he showed signs of his immense potential for England in the recently concluded T20 WC 2021.

Almost all the IPL teams want an overseas player who can bat in the middle-order. It gets better if the overseas player can bowl a few overs as well. Thus, the English all-rounder is expected to be one of the top picks during the IPL 2022 mega auction.

3) Rahul Tripathi (60 lakhs)

Rahul Tripathi has been one of the most improved Indian players in the recent past. After having an inconsistent run with RR, he was backed by the Knight Riders. Although he was brought for just 60 lakhs in the IPL 2020 auction, the aggressive batter was a consistent face in KKR’s XI in 2021.

His positive approach is his USP. Tripathi hates playing dot balls and loves to accelerate the innings. Besides, the right-hander can bat anywhere in the top-order.

He has scored 1385 runs in 62 IPL games so far. His batting average and strike rate are 26.13 and 136.32 respectively. This includes seven fifties as well.

4) Venkatesh Iyer (20 lakhs)

Venkatesh Iyer was the find of IPL 2021. He was one of the major reasons why KKR went to play the final. The batting all-rounder has managed to impress one and all with his exploits in the last few months.

This lead to him making his international debut as well. Flexibility is what makes him such a valuable asset on any side. Not only can he open the innings, but he can also play in the middle order as his ability to mix it up with the ball is a bonus.

Though he was bought for just 20 lakhs in the IPL 2021 auction, he was worth much more. However, it looks highly unlikely that any team is going to get him at a low price. As a matter of fact, the all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh would certainly be one of the players to watch out for, in the upcoming mega auction.

5) Yuzvendra Chahal (10 lakhs)

Yuzvendra Chahal is now a seasoned campaigner. He has now emerged as one of the greatest Indian spinners in the shortest format of that game. However, there was a time when he was an unknown face in the IPL.

He started his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians (MI) and was then purchased by RCB in 2014. As he was a youngster back then, Kohli’s team had to spend only 10 lakh to get him. This turned out to be a masterstroke as the leggie then went on to become an absolute champion.

The wrist-spinner was then brought back by the same franchise in the IPL 2018 auction. He is now a regular feature in RCB’s XI. However, if the 31-year-old does feature in the IPL 2022 mega auction, he’d definitely be one of the biggest buys of the auction.
