5. Best bowling figures of 6/12 by Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph had the best possible IPL debut when he managed to return with sensational figures of 6/12 while playing for the Mumbai Indians. His figures aren’t just the best in general, but they are also the best by an IPL debutant.
The previous record was 6/14 by Sohail Tanvir which came in the inaugural campaign of the league. Alzarri’s magical spell came during the 19th game of the league in 2019 and it was against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai had a poor time with the bat in the first innings as they could only put up 136 and given the form David Warner and Jonny Bairstow were in, it looked like they were well short.
However, the young West Indian had other ideas as he ran through their batting lineup, and in the end, they were bundled out for just 96. He wasn’t able to do much in the next two games he played and was subsequently ruled out due to injury. For this record to be eclipsed, either 7 wickets should be taken by a single bowler or he must concede less than 12 runs while picking up 6 wickets, which are obviously very difficult.
