It was always going to be difficult for Rishabh Pant to fill in the boots of a player like MS Dhoni. Though he looked a like for like replacement, his temperament and keeping credentials has let him down. That’s why recently the Indian team gambled by picking KL Rahul as their first-choice keeper in the limited-overs format.

Fortunately, it has worked well for the Karnataka cricketer and as well as for the Blue team. Especially his work behind the stumps has been exemplary. So now he looks a long-term option for the Indian team which also means he is likely to don the gloves in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Although it is a positive sign for the team Rahul’s keeping might have a negative impact on his batting as it is considered an exhausting task in the long run. Besides, it is not wise to burden him with multiple responsibilities owing to his rich history of injuries.

What’s more daunting is the team management’s lack of confidence in the other keeping option, Sanju Samson. In all currently, the team is too dependent on Rahul’s glovework and it can backfire quickly. So now the team should look to groom more safe pair of hands instead of waiting for last-minute mishaps.
