But once he was dismissed for 91, Australia took control and arrested the flow of runs to make the target look distant from India’s reach. The captain cool MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina took the game deep into the last five overs. The former kept his calm as Raina yorked himself off the quicker from Xavier Doherty.</p>
<p>An excellent 49th over from the left-arm spinner meant India needed 13 runs off the final over to be bowled by Clint Mckay. Ravichandran Ashwin was on strike and the tension mounted as he wasted the first ball. The skipper came on strike for the third ball and thumped it for a gigantic <strong>112m six over long on</strong>. The very next delivery was a waist-high no ball as the batsmen ran two to bring the equation down to 3 off 2 deliveries. The penultimate delivery was pulled behind square on the on side as Dhoni scampered for three before David Warner dived to save the boundary. India pulled off an amazing victory thanks to the best finisher.</p>
<h3><b>4. November 5, 2009, Hyderabad, 5th ODI: Australia won by 3 runs</b></h3>

<p>The fifth ODI of the 7-match series was one of the most heartbreaking defeats for Indian fans. Australia posted a daunting 350/4 after opting to bat first as Shaun Marsh scored a fluent 112 which was well supported by Cameron White&#8217;s 33-ball 57 runs knock. India rode on one of Sachin Tendulkar&#8217;s best ODI innings in reply. As the wickets kept falling at the other end, the little master wreaked havoc on the Australian bowlers and scored 175 off just 141 deliveries with as many as 19 fours and 4 massive hits over the top. But he was dismissed with 19 runs required off 17 balls.</p>
<p>India lost couple more quick wickets after Sachin’s dismissal to leave the last pair to get 8 runs off the final over. Shane Watson was given the job and he conceded 3 off the first 3 balls as Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar kept their cool. But it was all drama on the next delivery. Praveen hit the ball hard to the left of long-off as the batsmen went for the second run. But Nathan Hauritz sprinted across the turf superbly and delivered a deadly accurate throw at the striker’s end to find Praveen Kumar out just by an inch and India fell agonisingly short by 3 runs. Sachin Tendulkar’s greatest ever innings was not enough for the Men in Blue and Australia prevailed when it mattered.</p>

<p>India arrived in Sydney for the 5th One Day International to avoid the humiliating whitewash at the hands of Australia. Australia amassed a hefty total of 330/7 after being put into bat by the visitors. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scored scintillating hundreds as the Indian bowlers were found wanting on a flat wicket. India was provided with a brilliant start by their openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. But the required run rate kept creeping up and the former’s wicket in the 35th over made things look tough for India. MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey formed a wonderful mixture of aggression and caution and kept their team in the game.</p>
<p>Once again the last over finish beckoned as India brought it down to 13 from the final one. Aussie skipper Steve Smith handed the ball to the centurion Marsh as the fans were on the edge of their seat. Once again the captain cool the ‘Magnificent Mahendra’ slapped the first ball of the over the leaping long-off fielder and collected much needed six for India. But he was gone next ball trying the same shot and Indian fans were stunned again. But Pandey kept his calm and steered the wide yorker to the third man boundary to bring up his maiden century. He celebrated his wonderful ton off the next ball after launching the ball over the covers for a couple of runs and helped India win the nail-biter.</p>
