Many might say the recency effect earned this innings a ticket into this list, but after intense analysis, it’s hard to recollect another innings of such quality, temperament, and fortitude. India were down and out losing 5 wickets even before scoring 100 runs. The English bowlers were on a roll and history was clearly repeating itself.

But then came the 29-year-old who into the act, he patiently walked past the phase where the bowlers were running riot. No top order batsman supported him from the other end, but he was keen to help his side get as close as possible to England’s first innings total.

Another factor to take into consideration was his previous visit to England, where he was dismantled by the English swing bowlers. Kohli corrected the technical aspect and managed to overhaul every other weakness he ever possessed. Eventually, he clobbered a fantastic 149 with great support from the tail.

Once again, he fought his heart out for the country, but lack of support let his effort go in vain. India had to chase down 194 runs in the fourth innings to win the game but fell short by 31 runs.
