The Delhi Daredevils had a very disappointing season in the IPL 2018. They have been struggling to get their combinations right in the tournament for the last six editions now. They have tried a lot of things on paper and on the field, but nothing seems to be going their way as of now. In the 2018 edition, they looked like a very fancy side on paper. But their on field performances failed to live up to the occasion.

They took four games to register their first win in the season. They went on to lose too many games to crash out of the race for the playoffs before any other side. They certainly did manage to end things on a high with two wins in their last two games. But that could not stop them from getting the wooden spoon.

Certainly, the team management has a big task in hand before they head in to the IPL 2019. The positives for the side has been the fact that their Indian lot has performed well. Hence, it will not be surprising to see the Delhi Daredevils look out for a few more overseas options in the next edition of the tournament. Here, we try to figure out some options they might consider for IPL 2019.

Here are the 5 Players Delhi Daredevils should target in IPL 2019:

Hashim Amla

Veteran South African cricketer Hashim Amla went unsold at the IPL auctions this season. It was surprising to see Amla go unsold despite having played so well in the IPL last year for the Kings XI Punjab. Amla had aggregated 420 runs in the previous edition of the tournament including two centuries to his name.

The Delhi Daredevils can certainly rope him in their squad next season. The Daredevils saw their overseas stars like Jason Roy, Colin Munro, and Glenn Maxwell fail in the opening slot. Hence, trying out someone like Hashim Amla in the top order next season sounds like a very legit proposition.

Joe Root

English cricketer Joe Root is one of the most talented batsmen of the modern day game. The young English Test skipper failed to attract any bids at the IPL auctions in 2018. The Delhi Daredevils can make a very smart move by getting his services for the next season. Root will be a cheat deal for them. He can not only contribute with the bat, but also as a leader of the side.

Who knows, if given an opportunity, Root can pretty well do a Kane Williamson for the Daredevils next season. There are a lot of people who think Root might not fit in to the scheme of things for the shortest format of the game. For those people, it is important to note that Root was one of the top performers for England in the ICC World T20 2016 in India. Furthermore, Root can contribute with the ball as well.

Moises Henriques

Moises Henriques is not a new name in the IPL. He has been around for quite some time in the tournament and has played some seriously good knocks as well. The Australian all-rounder was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp that had won the IPL 2016 under the leadership of David Warner.

At the IPL 2018 auctions, Henriques found no takers. But the Delhi Daredevils can actually think of him as a potential all-rounder in the side. With Chris Morris and Dan Christian failing miserably this season, Henriques can be added to the side in the coming edition of the tournament.

Varun Aaron

Indian speedster Varun Aaron failed to get any contract in the IPL this season. But the talented pacer has used his off time very well. Aaron is plying his trade in the County cricket in England for the Leicestershire. He has been quite successful in the tournament already. Aaron is a very handy bowler to have in the side in the shortest format of the game.

He can bowl very quick and going by the success of Umesh Yadav in the IPL 2018, the Delhi Daredevils can think of having someone like Varun Aaron in their side. The Jharkhand pacer has worked very hard on his game and certainly deserves to get another look in the IPL. With Mohammed Shami and Avesh Khan failing to perform in the season, Aaron serves his case well as a replacement.

Shaun Marsh

Veteran Australian batsman Shaun Marsh is an IPL superstar. Marsh holds the record for being the first uncapped player to score in excess of 500 runs in a single edition of the tournament. This season, he did not find any takers. But considering the impact that he can have in the shortest format, the Delhi Daredevils should consider him in the lineup next season.

The overseas openers of the Daredevils camp had a miserable time this season. Hence, going with the tried and tested player like Marsh is a very handy option for the side. Marsh has played 71 IPL matches and has scored 2477 runs at an average of almost 40.
