5. Avishka Fernando
The 21-year-old batsman from the Island nation, who was introduced to the International Cricket without having played a single first-class or List-A game turned out to be the best batsman for his side despite the limited opportunities he got. His 104 from 103 deliveries in his 3rd match of the World Cup was instrumental in ensuring a victory over the Caribbean team.
In the four matches he played, he scored 203 runs with an excellent strike-rate of 105.72. Despite playing just 4 matches, he was the 4th highest run-scorer for his side after Kusal Perera, Angelo Mathews and Dimuth Karunaratne. His arrival in the playing XI completely changed the Sri Lankan side.
He started hitting the ball from the beginning and put the pressure back on to the bowling side. After his inclusion in the playing XI, Sri Lanka won 2 of their 4 games including an upset over England. His aggressive batting suits the T20 format and it will be no surprise if he rakes in a few crores during the next IPL auction.
