The Hundred tournament has well and truly taken the world by storm. Love it or hate it, you just can’t ignore it. The new tournament has been the talk of the town for quite a while now.
While some people feel that it might destroy the lovely sport known as cricket, others perceive it to be a revolutionary move. The inaugural edition of The Hundred consists of several names. Among them, a few of them are international superstars.
While The Hundred is set to go on until the end of August, the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 all set to commence in the UAE next month. Several cricketers participating in the hundred-ball tournament are going to play the IPL as well.
Here are 5 players from The Hundred tournament to watch out for in IPL 2021
5. Rashid Khan
It would be safe to say that Rashid Khan is currently the best T20 bowler without a doubt. Every team dreams of having a player like Rashid on their side.
Add to that his hitting ability as well as his fielding skills. Thus, the match-winner from Afghanistan is a complete package. The leggie is all set to represent the Trent Rockets in The Hundred. Post this, he is all set to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the second half of IPL 2021.
SRH was arguably one of the worst teams of the first phase of IPL 2021 and was languishing at the bottom of the points table at the time when the season was suspended. If they are to reach the playoffs, they will need Rashid’s magic with the ball.
4. Quinton De Kock
Quinton de Kock is arguably one of the best wicketkeeper-batsman in today’s generation. To make things better, his form of late has been sensational, to say the least. He is now all set to showcase his talent in The Hundred tournament as well.
The Proteas wicketkeeper is all set to represent the Southern Brave and a lot is expected from him. However, not only Southern Braves but even MI will be expecting a lot from him. Despite not being at his best in the first half of IPL 2021, he looked decent and won a few matches for MI.
The opener has scored 1599 IPL runs in 72 innings. He has an average and strike rate of 31.55 and 132.21 respectively. Over the years, he and his skipper Rohit Sharma have been hailed as one of the best opening combinations as well, and thus, there are a lot of hopes from him to come good in the second phase of IPL 2021.
3. Faf Du Plessis
Faf du Plessis has been a silent warrior and a watchful protector for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2012. It is safe to say that he is one of the most underrated players to have played in the IPL. The former Proteas skipper will now be seen playing The Hundred.
He is all set to lead the Northern Superchargers and his team would hope to see him at his best and live up to his reputation. Post this, he will be joining the CSK camp in UAE.
Faf has been scoring runs for fun in the previous two editions of the IPL. He looked in sublime touch in the first phase of IPL 2021 as well. Thus, if CSK is to win the title this time around, Faf would have to be at his absolute best.
2. Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard has a reputation of hitting sixes out of orbit. Such skills are a necessity when your team has just a hundred balls to bat. Thus, the Trinidadian is going to be an asset in The Hundred tournament.
The Windies all-rounder will be representing the Welsh Fire and there are high hopes from him. Post this, he will be travelling to the UAE for the second phase of IPL 2021 where he will be representing the Mumbai Indians (MI). Pollard has been one of the most integral players for MI for a very long time.
He has single-handedly won several matches for MI across several seasons. He has scored 3191 IPL runs in 154 innings at an average and strike rate of 30.68 and 150.87 respectively. He has also picked 63 wickets.
1. Andre Russell
Andre Russell has been synonymous with T20 cricket for a long time now. The Caribbean powerhouse is all set to showcase his talent in The Hundred. This comes as a blessing in disguise for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as he is surely going to get back to the grove before the second phase of IPL 2021.
The Windies all-rounder will be representing the Southern Brave in the Hundred. Post which he will be travelling to the UAE and will be seen with the Knights in September. ‘Dre Russ’ has been in superb form of late as well.
The one thing which is guaranteed with Russell is that he will hit a lot of sixes. However, he will need have been at his best during the IPL as well as KKR seem to be in a spot of bother and only a few specials performances from ‘Muscle Russell’ can help them qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2021.
