The IPL 2020 Auction will take place on December 19 and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will want to make it a productive one, drafting in some players, who can add value and depth to their setup. KKR, the winners of the 2012 and 2014 editions of the IPL, didn’t have a great season last time.
Having lost six successive games in the middle, the Dinesh Karthik-led unit failed to qualify beyond the round-robin stage. The team hugely depended on Andre Russell, who was both their highest-run scorer and leading wicket-taker.
KKR were edged out by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Net Run Rate in the race to the playoffs after being locked on 14 points each. Ahead of the next edition, the Knights have a lot of homework to do in order to fill the potholes.
In our article, let’s have a look at five players KKR should pick in IPL 2020 Auction
Sheldon Cottrell
One of the main reasons behind KKR’s poor show last season was not being able to make early inroads into an opposition batting. This is where Sheldon Cottrell can be a useful pick for them.
The West Indies fast bowler can hustle in and spear yorkers at sheer pace, something which can be hard to deal with. The left-armer also has a deadly bouncer up his sleeve that can ruffle a few feathers. The 30-year-old was the leading wicket-taker for the Caribbean in the World Cup with 12 scalps.
Even in the 2019 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the pacer notched 12 wickets from eight matches at a decent economy of 7.83. There he represented St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. In 77 T20s, Cottrell has picked 111 wickets at a strike-rate of 14.9, manifesting his wicket-taking ability.
