Steyn Gun was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the last minute in the 2020 Auction. After his average performance in the IPL 2019, he was released. He is a vastly experienced and successful international bowler. However, it looks like his better days are behind him. In IPL 2020, Virat used Dale with the new ball hoping he would breakthrough early in the power play. Much to the disappointment of the franchise, Steyn was not able to execute to the best of his ability.

He was expected to lead the weak pace attack of the franchise. With the injury of Chris Morris, Steyn was initially given ample chances to do well in IPL 2020. But his poor performance forced the skipper to make changes to the side. Not particularly known for his pace variation, the speedster tried to bowl the slower ones. He was targeted by the opposition batsmen.

Steyn’s bowling card against KXIP showed – 4 overs 57 runs with a whopping economy of 14.2! Picking only one wicket in the first match of the season his economy against the SRH was 9. He just was not able to perform well under the conditions of the UAE. He was a part of RCB in the initial editions of IPL as well. But it looks like it’s time for the franchise to bid adieu to Steyn.
