The young left-handed batting all-rounder was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, he has not quite proven to be worthy of retention. Negi was not given an opportunity to express himself in IPL 2020. He did take on the field as a substitute fielder and took a couple of catches. But his presence in the squad doesn’t bring the weight that RCB would have hoped for from a batting all-rounder.

Capable of striking big, Negi’s role was to finish big at the end with the bat. However, owing to his poor performance in the IPL 2019 he could not find a place in the playing XI this year. RCB is filled with some powerful impact players at the top. It was key for them to find a good finisher in Negi. But the skills that Negi offered is just not enough.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have been known in the past for picking up and dropping players without giving them enough chances to prove themselves. However, in the case of Pawan Negi, RCB was very patient. He was retained ahead of some big names in the previous years. Failing to hold on, he may be released ahead of the IPL 2021.
