3. Mitchell Starc
A towering sturdy body, an action akin throwing fireballs, and the blazing Australian attitude; Mitchell Starc is a stock of flesh more than enough to intimidate any world-class batsman. The Sydney-born pacer is a World Cup winner and the leading wicket-taker in two consecutive World Cups.
Starc has played for the Bangalore franchise previously. He was bought before the 2014 auction by RCB. The left-hander accumulated 14 wickets in 2014 and 20 wickets in 2015. Starc hasn’t played an IPL game for four years. His last appearance in the IPL was in May 2015 against CSK.
Last year he pulled out of the auctions as the Australian board wanted their star pacer to be fit and fresh for the World Cup and The Ashes. A year before that Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for INR 9.4 crore but he couldn’t appear owing to an injury. This price is a testament to Mitchell Starc’s caliber even when he plays only a handful of limited-overs cricket throughout the year.
Dale Steyn, who himself has a career plagued with injuries might not be fit for the entire season. Hence having Mitchell Starc in the squad would be a wise selection. RCB would want to gain the services of the Aussie speedster to eliminate their bowling woes and end their title drought. With any luck, Mitchell Starc and Dale Steyn bowling in tandem would be divine stuff for cricket fans, not so for the batsman.
