The latest sensation in the stimulating world of T20 cricket is Somerset’s wicketkeeper opener, Tom Banton. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the T20 Blast 2019, just behind teammate Babar Azam. Banton scored 549 runs in 13 innings, striking at 161 and averaging 42. His scintillating a 52-ball-hundred against Kent brought him into the limelight.

Mentored by former English opener, Marcus Trescothick, Banton was Somerset’s second-highest run-scorer in the victorious Royal London One-day Cup campaign. He piled up 454 runs in 11 innings at an average of 41. The 20-year-old grabbed England’s Young Player of the Year award. On the back of his impressive performances, he has received a national call up for the T20Is against New Zealand.

After signing up for Brisbane Heat for Big Bash League, it is expected that IPL franchises will also bid for the Somerset striker. If Virat Kohli decides to push himself at number three, or Parthiv isn’t providing fast starts, Banton could be a useful addition at the top of the RCB line-up.
