The introduction of 20-over format has brought an unreal amount of changes in the game of cricket. During the 20th century, scores near 175 and 200 used to be par in ODIs and Test games, however, in the current times, they aren’t seen safe in the T20s either. The vastly different mentality of clearing the fence has gone up to such an extent, that even individuals have started scoring more than 150 runs in an inning.

One such example is the ace Carribean batsman Chris Gayle. The veteran cricketer is unarguably the greatest T20 batsman of all time. He has scored more than 10,000 runs in the format. He also holds the record of scoring 175 runs in a single inning. It is also the highest individual score in T20s.

This knock was played by Gayle in 2013 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against a hapless bowling unit of the Pune Warriors, the 40-year-old went on to struck 175* runs in just 66 balls, including 13 fours and 17 vivacious sixes. The blitz had a sheer blend of brutal force and finesse and literally made people chortle at the ‘species’ they call bowlers. With the help of this blistering knock, the Royal Challengers Bangalore eventually posted a total of 263 runs in 20 overs.

Even after 6 years of its existence, the knock is still unbeaten and remains the highest individual score in T20s. However, with so many modifications being made in T20 cricket, the record now seems in danger. Many new explosive batsmen have emerged in the fraternity and are on the verge of surpassing this 175-run-mark.

Here, we’ll have a look at some of those players

1. Rohit Sharma

The latter phase of the Indian opener Rohit Sharma’s career has been no less than a fairytale. Right from the beginning i.e. when he broke into the scene, people knew about his potential and talent, howbeit, he wasn’t able to convert them into numbers. Nonetheless, ever since he was given the chance to open for his team, there has been no looking back.

At this moment, Rohit finds himself in the list of the top batsmen of the cricketing fraternity. The 2018 season for him has been an amazing one and he finds himself in the top 10 rankings in each of the three formats. His love affair with daddy hundreds is also not hidden from anyone. Consequently, the Mumbai cricketer has scored 3 double hundreds in one day cricket, which is also a record.

This penchant of scoring hundreds is there with him in the shortest format of the game as well. He is the only player who has scored a total of four 100+ scores in T20 internationals. Rohit has the capability of smashing bowlers around the park from the first ball itself. With so much of brutality and effortlessness surrounding him, it won’t be shocking if he goes on to break Gayle’s record 175.
