After deciding to resign as India’s skipper in the T20Is post the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli shook his fans by announcing yet another resignation on September 19, 2021. Ahead of RCB’s first game in the UAE leg of IPL 2021, Kohli added he would step down from captaincy after the current season but will continue playing for the franchise till his end days. As the celebrated skipper moves away from his role, it certainly becomes a talk of paramount importance as to who will lead the team now? As IPL 2022 will also see mega auctions ahead of it, a lot of incoming and outgoing players would be observed, and here stand a few players who can lead RCB in the next season. Pulling the team out of crunch spots for years, the stunning batsman has done just a commendable job for the team. Apart from scoring runs, he stands to be one of the most experienced players of RCB who shares a great bond with the current skipper too. If Kohli has decided to step down, there cannot be a better person than Mr 360 to handle the team. Having experience of captaining his national team across formats, the decision of RCB’s management to give ruins of the team to him would absolutely be spot on. 2. David Warner David Warner. He was sacked from captaincy midway during the Indian phase of IPL 2021 and the worse happened when he lost his place in the playing XI of SRH. As mega auction approaches next year, SRH would be adamant about retaining the likes of Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, etc. However, it remains to be seen if they would go with their talismanic batsman or not and if not, he can be a great option for RCB. Having led SRH to an IPL victory in 2106 and having won the IPL Orange Cap thrice, his case of taking the given charge really stands tall. De Kock has been one of the main men of Mumbai’s team for quite some time but as mega auction approaches, the team will be sitting with tight hands. With Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya already up in the pecking order, De Kock’s chances look very slim with the five-time champions for the IPL 2022. However, one team’s loss will always be another team’s gain and in case MI let go of the Protean, he can be roped in by RCB for handling their captaincy roles. Having led his national team in past, the wicketkeeping-batsman has still a lot to offer in the IPL. 4. Devdutt Padikkal Devdutt Padikkal. He has been doing wonders for the team for the last two years and trusting him with the captaincy idea might come out as a fruitful decision for RCB. IPL is a platform where youngsters are given their full share of chances as well as responsibilities. Many young men lead their teams and keeping in mind the future prospects of RCB, Padikkal will go on a long way with them. He has been absolutely sensational with the bat and with veteran players around him, he might not face issues while taking the charge of the team. From making India’s debut to getting a call from T20 World Cup, his journey has been flowing in the best manner now. After making a stunning case for himself in the consecutive years of IPL with Mumbai Indians, SKY has started getting his rightful chances. But anyway, the star-studded lot of MI has a lot of players to retain ahead of SKY and it may result in the batsman moving away from the team. If that happens, RCB can really root for the Mumbai batsman and give him a chance to lead from the front. He has enough batting experience under his belt and would be keen on taking up a new role with all his vigour in the next season.
